Am I jaded? Stupid?
I just watched the clip of Michael Jackson's daughter, Paris, speaking at his memorial service. OK. I cried. For 30 seconds. Maybe this was because it was just a youtube clip and not taken in it's entirety, but as SOON as it ended, I did NOT feel sad at all. I felt incredibly angry. I don't know if it was Janet's "Speak up... Speak up... Get the microphone close" or them ushering her off and saying "thanks for coming", but I'm not sure that I wasn't just horrifically manipulated.
This entire process has been ridiculous and that child has spent her entire public life in a mask or a veil and to put her onstage in front of literally hundreds of millions of people was either blatant, exploitative P.R., a selfless display of love, or both.
I feel genuinely sorry for these kids. More sorry than I was for them when he was alive.
